This is how moral drift occurs—we gradually come to accept that it is okay for people to work for slave wages, in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, and then be unable to collect benefits to support them in their old age. Even worse, their Social Security contributions will support the retirement of someone else. We gradually come to think it is okay for the average American worker to keep losing out in terms of wages and benefits, working two and sometimes three jobs to afford a house that is worth half of what it was just a couple of years ago. Don’t be distracted by the ‘culture wars.” Economic and political “moral drift” is what immorality looks like today in the United States.
